Orb Premieres: October 2024

Midway through autumn, the indoor creative spaces bloom, once again, with exhibitions, performances, and art enthusiasts. Many will argue that this period is the most critical and inspiring for acts of self-expression, community-based initiatives, and productive hard work. Compared to the carefree after-summer days, now, deep into the season’s heart, we witness a burst of releases and events alike. The abundance of that kind of activity reflects some of its parts in October’s Orb Premieres, where eighteen tracks reside. In our latest summary, the variations mainly focused on dance-floor crackers, broken-beat terrains, and immersive, occasionally hazy, textures.

Lo-x3 – CB-190301

Lo-x3’s pinched sparks implode in mild tempo arrangements, granting “CB-190301” a cosmically bewitching touch, veined with circulating bleeps and compelling reimposed backdrops. The track is found on the B-side of Shoc_orridor, out via Pomelo.

new-dot-com – Trufax

The formidable motif of the percussive consistency employed in new-dot-com’s “Trufax” creates a dub-fermented rhythmicality, bolstering the tribalistic soundscape the generated frequencies enveloped within. “Trufax” is in the Riddleyspeak EP available on Comfortnoise.

Hasvat Informant & Monoxide Leak Variety World ft. Mick Gristle – Plasma Fiends

The three-sided collaboration of Hasvat Informant, Monoxide Leak Variety World, and Mick Gristle on “Plasma Fiends,” the first single from Monoxide Leak Variety World’s same-titled debut LP, glues with experimental, trance-like assets a cybernetical tune, haunted by recurring, distorted vocals, and a wavering synthetic hypnotism.

Hett – Candor

Hett’s “Candor” blooms within a glistening sonic modernity where the warping loops compete with piercing drumming patterns in a fragmented sequence, broken and urged by atmospheric breaths. “Candor” is taken from Hett’s debut, same-titled EP, released on Awkwardly Social.

Scøpe – Javelin

Methodically building up its energy in a densely organic textural environment, Scøpe, in “Javelin,” triggers insensible dancing manoeuvres with an elaborately entrancing structure, inducing a much-desired setting of spiritual haze. That track is from Scøpe’s latest EP, Flare, on SCOPÁVIK.

Healing Force Project – We Are Mutants

Healing Force Project’s nocturnal, meditative dub manifests through “We Are Mutants,” a track which presents, via its percussive-heavy temperament, slow sways, and contemporary augmentations, a means to synchronise with the perpetually unknown space in the beyond, extracted from the duo’s Nebula Dub Exploration LP on Beat Machine Records.

How Du – Void (128 Version)

Across its moody tippings and submerging design, the 128bpm version of How Du’s “Void” on the same-titled release on The Moth Club carves a more late-night and club-oriented extension of the original idea, moulding the stabilised rhythm on the firm poundings with the mystical vocal iterations into an almost paranormal fictionalisation.

Kajsa Villius – Hear Me Nix

The underlying progressive sound mentality of Kajsa Villius in “Hear Me Nix” combines the intense drumming straightforwardness with a dramatically hooking bassline to forge a wildly energetic theme, surrounded by intervening, low-tone whirls. “Hear Me Nix” is included in Kajsa’s upcoming Baltic Blue EP on Manual Smiles.

Etch – Inside The Box

Fueled by a frantic beat and fierce hats, the agitated break formations in Etch’s “Inside The Box,” from the Scream of the Butterfly LP on Sneaker Social Club, create a massive yet gritty, ramped-up urban tune interchanging between a multitude of banging peaks and fiery depths.

Keplrr – False Awakening

Keplrr’s “False Awakening” transpires in an immersive artificial dream and expands within a mind-bending sci-fi-like reality, where the whole trip persists through lucid vocals, hypnotic, high-pitched bells, and tempting sonic routines. This eight-minute journey is found in the same-titled EP, out via GRACE.

Snowdrops – Arctic Passage

The vibrations of a primordial, ambient maelstrom in Snowdrops’ “Arctic Passage” transform into nocturnal, symphonic arrangements, marking an almost choreographic transition from the inherently dark corridors to the extricating, colourful horizons. Experience this sense-revealing auditory experience in the Singing Stones (Volume 1) LP on Gizeh Records.

Binary Algorithms – Register #01 (UFO95 Remix)

UFO95’s reimagining of “Register #01” by Binary Algorithms in the Registers (Remixes) EP sways within elastic broken patterns in a steadily eloquent range, dynamically inducing a vivid tempo and mixing it across its stream with positively emotional atmospheric gusts.

Formant Value – Funzione I (Valentino Mora Cosmic Trans Rephase)

Valentino Mora’s retake sprays a swarm of hypnotic tinctures on Formant Value’s “Funzione I” layered canvas, enhancing its deep techno curve with a balanced reiteration of highly prolific and fuzzy fibres of textured finesse. The track is from the Funzione EP on Baroque Sunburst.

Flavia Laus & Dinamite – Stato Liminare

The robust pacing in the collaborative “Stato Liminare” composition by Flavia Laus and Dinamite follows a trembling percussive motif which dives into a rumbling and bouncing groove, backed up by steep cuts, detached tension, and irregularly incited yet mystifying narration. “Stato Liminare” is from the Reinos Elementales EP, available via Onna Bushi Records.

Jay Duncan – Bitten Dream

Devoid of a pre-governed rhythmicality, Jay Duncan’s “Bitten Dream” from the Catalyst Curve EP on Baroque Sunburst sends shivers with its flow of untangled and pumping bass chords, ethereal gasps and enduringly warm synths, offering a hearty exhilaration.

Belief Defect – Uncanny

The drawing obscurity conceived through leaden, slow-paced pulsations in Belief Defect’s “Uncanny” generates a structure of shrouded disarray, primarily reflecting the deepest and darkest emotions stemming from a process of a lone introspective of shattered self-awareness. The track is in the Discontent LP on Raster.

Carrier – A Victim Of Gravity

Carrier’s “A Victim Of Gravity,” from Exit Records’ latest compilation EXIT100 Pt. Four, is a structure of distorted tones and charged, noisy grains sorted in a way which creates magnetic sonic fluctuations, enveloping in their iterations abrupt drills and high-pitched flickers.

Aiôn Lazura – Black Sand Wind

The comforting, aetheric ambience of Aiôn Lazura’s “Black Sand Wind” eases the mood by introducing mellow, relief-giving atmospheric waves, gently infused as a breeze-like touch over a soft sea of tenderness. “Black Sand Wind” is from the Biotope release on ambient matter.
